My name is Steve Piccolo. I’m a PhD student at the University of Utah (USA). This blog is intended to be a place where I can post what I learn along the way to becoming a biomedical informatician.

My current interests in this field could be classified under translational bioinformatics, which is basically at the center of the broader field of biomedical informatics (at least in my opinion). You could say it’s a combination of informatics (information systems, computer science), clinical medicine, molecular biology (including genetics), statistics, and even public health. My background has been mostly in information systems, so I’m in the process of stretching to learn more about the other fields.

Before my graduate program, I earned a B.S. in Information Systems at Brigham Young University and then worked for five years as a software developer for Intel Corporation.

I would welcome any comments, corrections, or insights into what I write.
